After experiencing a difficult situation at a larger assisted living facility, we were incredibly fortunate to find American Dream Home for my parents. What a difference it made—not only for my parents, but for our entire family. American Dream Home at La Junta Rd. in Scottsdale is a small, private assisted living home with a maximum of about 10 residents, which allows for a much more personal, calm and attentive environment. The owners, Oliver and Gordana, are absolutely wonderful. They genuinely care about their residents and make every effort to ensure they are comfortable, happy and have what they need. Communication with the family is excellent, which was extremely important to me. The caregivers are friendly, kind and attentive, and there is always someone in the home 24/7. Home-cooked meals are prepared for the residents, the rooms are bright and pleasant with large windows, and the atmosphere feels much more like a home than an institution. They have created an environment where residents are treated like family, and family members are always made to feel welcome.
My parents had previously lived in a much larger assisted living community that offered an impressive list of activities and entertainment. Unfortunately, we found that the staff there were often overworked and unable to provide the level of attention my dad needed. My mother became afraid to leave him alone in their apartment because she wasn't confident someone would come promptly if he called for help. As a result, all of those wonderful activities meant very little because she couldn't comfortably participate in them.
That experience taught me that when choosing assisted living, personal attention, safety, kindness and peace of mind are far more important than a long list of amenities. At American Dream Home, I finally felt that my parents were safe, respected and truly cared for. During the final stage of my dad’s life, Oliver and Gordana helped arrange hospice care through RD Hospice. The hospice team was wonderful as well.
American Dream Home also provides some entertainment and activities, including a musician who comes to play music and sing with the residents, but what makes this home special is the personal care and peaceful, family-like atmosphere.
My parents lived at American Dream Home for approximately 10 months, and I cannot say enough about the care they received. If you are looking for a smaller, more private assisted living setting where your loved one will be known personally, treated with dignity and cared for by attentive people, I highly recommend American Dream Home.
I will always be grateful to Oliver, Gordana and their caregivers for giving me the peace of mind of knowing that my parents were finally in good hands.
