What is assisted living?
Assisted living combines a place to live with help such as bathing, dressing, medication support, meals, and housekeeping. The amount of help varies by person and community. It generally serves people who need daily assistance without the level of medical care provided in a nursing facility.

Group home or assisted living center?
In Arizona, an assisted living home serves ten or fewer residents; an assisted living center serves eleven or more. Supervisory, personal, and directed care describe different authorized services. A small home is not automatically limited to lighter needs, and a large campus is not automatically licensed for every level of care. Confirm the exact location and its authorization.

Compare the day, not just the amenities
Walk through a typical morning, mealtime, evening, and overnight with the team. Ask how help is requested and who responds. A beautiful dining room tells you little about whether someone can get assistance at the time they need it. Bring the resident’s preferences into the conversation: a quiet breakfast, a familiar routine, a favorite activity, or time outdoors may matter more than a long amenity list.

Request a written quote based on the same care needs from every community on your shortlist. Put the housing charge, care charge, medication fees, and recurring extras in separate columns. Add move-in charges separately so a first-month total does not get confused with an ongoing monthly payment. Prices shown in the directory are representative; the community’s assessment and current availability determine its offer.

Make the tour useful
Compare more than one setting if time allows. Speak with the people responsible for day-to-day support, not only the sales team. Take notes immediately afterward using the same questions for each visit.
