An assisted-living quote can include several different charges. Compare the full amount for the apartment and support being discussed, not just the advertised starting rent.
Separate the bill into three parts
| Part of the bill | Get these details in writing |
|---|---|
| Housing and included services | Apartment, meals, utilities, housekeeping, and any transportation allowance |
| Ongoing assistance | What is included, how additional support is priced, and when charges can change |
| One-time charges | Community fee, deposit, move-in costs, and which amounts may be refunded |
Ask whether assistance is sold in packages, levels, or individual services. A “level two” label at one community is not necessarily comparable with “level two” at another. Compare the actual services and total bill.
Ask how the quote could change
Use these questions on the first call:
- Who confirms the services and charges before a resident moves in?
- What is the process if more help is needed later?
- Are medication services, escorts, laundry, supplies, or transportation separate?
- What staffing and response arrangements are available overnight?
- How are fee increases communicated, and when could the first increase occur?
- What charges continue during an absence, and what happens if the resident must move out?
Send information needed for the community's own assessment directly to its designated team. GlenOak does not need medical records to provide these planning resources.
Include the first month and a normal month
The first invoice may combine recurring charges with deposits, moving expenses, and an overlap with existing housing. Put those one-time items in their own column. A temporary promotion also belongs in its own column, with its end date and written conditions. Compare the normal recurring bill as well as the initial invoice.
Understand the estimate on this page
Our range is a starting point for planning. It does not confirm a community's current rate, an available apartment, or the amount of support a resident would need. An actual quote may fall outside the range. Obtain the current agreement and fee schedule for the specific location before deciding.
Your next step: Use the tour checklist to ask the same questions at each location. If payment help may be needed, read how the main payment options differ before assuming a community participates in a program.
